Axe was Roger Johnson’s Wolves low point
Friday 30th December 2011, 10:53AM GMT.
Captain Roger Johnson today revealed being axed recently was the worst moment of his career.
Johnson was dropped by Wolves boss Mick McCarthy for the 2-1 win against Sunderland, only to come off the bench and then win an immediate recall when his replacement Jody Craddock injured a hamstring.
The 28-year-old, who suffered relegation with Birmingham last season, hasn’t played as well as had been hoped since joining Wolves for £4.5m last summer.
But he had his best game for the club in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.
“I was happy with my performance,” said the skipper.
“Being left out of the team was the worst moment of my career to date. Being left out through not playing well enough has never happened to me before.
“It hit home big time. I certainly don’t want that feeling again. I’ll be doing whatever it takes to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“It’s about getting my performance levels to be good and consistent and hopefully going into the new year I can keep it like that.”
