O’Hara tells Wolves to stay on front foot

Jamie O’Hara today urged Wolves to continue playing ‘in-your-face’ football and not sit back– because it suits them and will get results.

Boss Mick McCarthy has reverted to a 4-4-2 formation in the last two games and been rewarded with positive performances in the 2-1 win over Sunderland and the 4-1 defeat at Manchester United.

Despite the Old Trafford setback, Wolves looked better for pressurising the opposition higher up the pitch.

Now, with successive home games against Stoke and Norwich looming in the next seven days, midfielder O’Hara hopes McCarthy will continue setting up the team to play the same.

“I hope so,” said the 25-year-old. “We can’t sit back like we did against Swansea and QPR – it doesn’t work.

“If we play like we did at United and against Sunderland, on the front foot, it’s end-to-end football but it’s positive and that’s how we play best. We started by playing 4-4-2 on Saturday but if we have to switch to 4-5-1, we can do it by staying positive.

“We looked dangerous and if we can keep being positive and keep playing on the front foot, we’ll get results.”

Like Stephen Ward, O’Hara believes Wolves should be aiming for a maximum six-point return from the visits of the Potters and the Canaries after winning their last two home games against Wigan and Sunderland.

“It was great to beat Sunderland – that gave us a boost and to get something from Old Trafford would have been a bonus,” he said.

“It wasn’t to be but we’ve got two big home games coming up and we’re looking for six points and I think we can take the points.”

I would dearly love to know how getting thumped 4-1 can be regarded as a positive performance.
