Biggest goal yet has Wolves’ Dave Edwards looking up

Dave Edwards today claimed the most important goal of his career can kick-start a Wolves revival to clinch a mid-table spot.
The former Shrewsbury star’s timely strike restored Wolves’ lead before they went on to beat Wigan 3-1 on Sunday to end their eight-match run without a Premier League win and put Mick McCarthy’s side 13th.
Edwards’ goal against Wigan came at exactly the same point of the season as his winner against Manchester City this time last year.
But the 25-year-old believes his latest effort was the most important of his career because of the pressure the players and manager were under.
“I think it was – with the situation we’ve been in as well with the run of results,” said Edwards.
“Going in at half-time, we could quite easily have folded after they got that goal, but we showed real character to go in front again. It was a very important goal in terms of settling us down.”
Edwards’ goal and first 90-minute game since Chelsea on January 5 was reward for his painstaking rehabilitation following a back scare which kept him out from February to August and left him even fearing for his career.
“I was worried, so to come through it is fantastic and I thank all the staff and everyone who helped me,” he said.
