Steven Fletcher loses fitness fight for Wolves clash
Wednesday 2nd November 2011, 11:05AM GMT.
Wolves today suffered a blow after top scorer Steven Fletcher was ruled out of Sunday’s big clash against Wigan.
Manager Mick McCarthy had hoped the £7m club record signing would start full training this week and be available for the first “must-win” clash of the season this weekend.
But three-goal Fletcher, who has missed the last three Premier League games, is still some way from reaching full fitness because of the calf he tore in training in the build-up to the Albion game on October 16. And McCarthy doesn’t want to risk throwing him in and getting injured again.
“He’s alright, he’s coming on but he won’t be ready for the weekend,” said McCarthy.
