Wolves haven’t clicked yet, says Roger Johnson

Straight-talking captain Roger Johnson today admitted he and Wolves “haven’t clicked” yet – but vowed to put things right for Sunday’s Black Country derby.

The £4.5m defender unfortunately put through his own net in the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool and was involved in both Newcastle goals as Wolves lost by the same scoreline last time out.

“Personally, I’m not at the top of my game yet and I’m the first to hold my hands up about that,” said Johnson.

“It’s just the odd mistake, but at the moment, each mistake I’ve made has been punished.”

“I’ve had a word with the manager about it – it’s nothing I’m willing to share, but I’ll work through it myself.

“I’m sure there are other players who have been speaking to the manager because there are a few things going wrong on matchdays.

“Something is not clicking at the moment and we’ve got to put that right. You need seven out of your 11 performing and we probably haven’t had that recently.”

Boss Mick McCarthy said yesterday loyalty is the key to getting the best out of his players but Johnson believes poor performances won’t be tolerated indefinitely.

“Everyone knows that if they’re not performing the manager will probably pull them at some point.”

Wolves have trailed 2-0 in each of the last four games but Johnson is convinced they just need to ‘fine-tune’ a few things.

“We’re not a million miles away,” he said.
