Kevin Doyle signs new Wolves deal

Kevin Doyle today signed a new four-year contract to end speculation over his future.

The talismanic striker, who has recently turned 28, has decided to effectively pledge the best years of his career to the Molineux cause until 2016 when he will be 32.

Doyle, who cost a then club record £6.5m in June 2009, has again been the subject of interest as he entered the final two years of his existing deal, and the club’s top brass have been working behind the scenes to extend his stay.

Arsenal, Juventus and Liverpool, who had a £9m bid turned down for Doyle during Roy Hodgson’s time in August 2010 and were again linked in the last transfer window, are all big fans of the Ireland international.

Tottenham, Villa and Everton were all keen on Doyle at the time while Fulham lodged an interest.

But the former Reading striker had already given his word to boss Mick McCarthy and he is again happy to disappoint the lengthy list of admirers up and down the Premier League.

It is not known if there is a release clause in the new contract for the striker who has scored 18 goals in 74 games in gold and black.
