Wolves midfielder Adlene Guedioura was today seeing a specialist to determine the extent of his ankle injury.

The Algeria World Cup star has not yet played in pre-season after returning to training with the problem in his right ankle and was visiting the consultant to discover how bad it is.

“Addy is going to see a specialist today about his ankle – we hope it’s not too serious,” said manager Mick McCarthy.

With David Jones released and reports suggesting Liverpool’s Jay Spearing has snubbed a season-long loan move to Wolves, Guedioura’s absence has meant Wolves have a shortage of central midfielders, with Dave Edwards still out with his back injury.

Jamie O’Hara made his comeback in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Notts County, when academy graduate David Davis played.

And McCarthy revealed Davis, who spent three months at Shrewsbury Town last season, had been held back from going out on loan because of the shortage of players in the middle.

“Adlene and Dave Edwards are injured,” said the boss. “David Davis was actually going to go out on loan but I need him here at the moment, as cover for the others.

“Dave Edwards is gradually progressing and we’ll have to wait and see.”

Striker Sam Vokes will miss Wednesday’s friendly at Celtic with his groin injury.

Meanwhile, McCarthy was relieved to see O’Hara, Ronald Zubar and Steven Fletcher make their comebacks at the weekend.
