Kevin Foley signs new four-year Wolves contract
Friday 15th July 2011, 11:28AM BST.
Wolves defender Kevin Foley today signed a new four-year contract to keep him at Molineux until 2015.
The 26-year-old, who still had two years remaining on his current deal, joins Wayne Hennessey, Matt Jarvis and Dave Edwards over the last 12 months in committing their long-term futures to the club.
Foley’s contract is reward for his consistency after 161 appearances in his four years since his bargain £700,000 move from Luton. And his ability to play at right-back, centre midfield and right midfield make him a valuable member of the squad.
“The new contract extends my future here by four years and I was really happy the club wanted to do that,” said the Ireland international.
Meanwhile Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will be free to repeat ‘Old Traffordgate’ next season without fear of reprisal.
Clubs will not now be punished for making wholesale changes to their teams provided they select from their 25-man squad.
Wolves were hit by a suspended £25,000 fine after McCarthy made 10 changes for the 3-0 defeat at Manchester United in December 2009 but that was before the 25-man squad rule.
Blackpool did the same for their 3-2 defeat at Villa last season and were fined £25,000.
