Wolves double act will fire, says Morgan
Saturday 25th June 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Wolves chairman Steve Morgan today warned the Premier League to beware Stephen Hunt and Steven Fletcher next season.
Club record £7m signing Fletcher was the team’s 12-goal top scorer in 2010-11, while Hunt proved he is a man for the big occasion by scoring the vital goal to help Wolves stay up on Survival Sunday.
But the pair were restricted to 15 and 14 Premier League starts respectively as a combination of different reasons kept the duo, who signed a year ago, sidelined.
Fletcher, 24, struggled for games early on after an injury-plagued start as boss Mick McCarthy largely stuck with Kevin Doyle on his own up front.
Winger Hunt, who cost around £3.5m, didn’t play until October because of a serious foot injury, followed by calf and hernia problems.
But the 29-year-old finished the campaign in style and Morgan believes the best is yet to come from Hunt and Fletcher.
“The two Steves, Fletcher and Hunt, both did great jobs,” said Morgan.
“We missed Hunty through injury for a lot of the season, but when he came back, he was fabulous.
“Fletcher was the top scorer without playing in anything like the amount of games he perhaps could have played in,” added Morgan.
“What would he do with a full season?”

Wolves should at least spend 30mill per pre-season on new players. We’ll see how things turn out if we not spend enough money.
We should pay what’s necessary for Johnson. Simply because he’s our first choice and the best defender available. We need to get the best players we can afford. Liverpool payed well over market price for Carroll. But in the long run it will pay off if he turns out to be a success.
There are players out there which are the difference between success and failure.
