David Jones leaves Wolves
Friday 27th May 2011, 2:39PM BST.
Midfielder David Jones has left Wolves with a glowing reference from manager Mick McCarthy, writes MARTIN SWAIN.
The Molineux boss is still waiting to sort out the futures of a string of his Premier League squad, but confirmed the player who ignited last season with a goal in the opening day victory over Stoke is moving on.
The 26-year-old’s set-piece classic to get Wolves off to a winning start was to prove a false dawn as he went on to total only 15 first team appearances in the campaign and last appeared in the Premier League in the 1-0 defeat at Bolton in February.
Wolves had offered him a new deal and McCarthy continues to believe in the former Manchester United youngster’s pedigree in the top flight. But Jones has rejected the deal and opted to try his luck elsewhere .
“He is a free agent,” says McCarthy. “He’s turned his contract down but that’s his prerogative and I’ve no complaints. He’s been fabulous.”
