Wolves owner Steve Morgan has dropped a large hint Mick McCarthy will remain as manager even if the club are relegated from the Barclays Premier League.

Former Liverpool shareholder Morgan, who took over at Molineux in 2007, insists he will never give “the dreaded vote of confidence” to any manager.

But he has given his support to McCarthy and has stressed the need for stability rather than chopping and changing as has been the case at other clubs.

Morgan said: “You never give the dreaded vote of confidence but Mick has been here for five years and I don’t believe you get any progress at all by chopping and changing.

“Chopping and changing has happened in other clubs and what good has it done them?

“I know Mick has made progress every year since I’ve been here.

“There are times in life when things don’t go right but you’ve got to get back up and stand together and make sure you get it right next time.

“The fans have seen that, they’ve got behind the club and everyone benefits from it.”
