Wolves need big effort, says McCarthy
Monday 18th April 2011, 10:06AM BST.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today backed his players to respond to the latest ‘tipping point’ in their season with Saturday’s game against Fulham.
McCarthy’s side go into the clash bottom of the Premier League and two points from the safety line but with a game in hand.
Wolves were bottom when they beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, and the manager believes his side can produce another special effort this weekend.
“It could be a tipping point, but the players have always responded when it’s been a kind of ‘must-win’ game,” said McCarthy. “They’ve always done it.
“There’s no better time for a special effort to come than the Fulham game.”
McCarthy firmly believes the squad have the mental resolve in place to succeed.
“It’s in themselves to stay out of it I can’t put that into them,” he said. ”
“They enjoy each other’s company and they fight for each other and there’s a good team spirit. But they’ve got to have that desire in themselves.
“You look for players who have got that in the first place.”
