Michael Kightly ‘surprised’ by dismal Wolves
Monday 4th April 2011, 11:17AM BST.
Comeback man Michael Kightly today revealed Wolves were surprised how bad they were on Saturday as he vowed to play a part in the run-in.
Kightly made his first senior appearance for 16 months as a 54th minute substitute for Adam Hammill at Newcastle, but he couldn’t prevent Mick McCarthy’s side sliding to a 4-1 defeat.
Wolves were second best until Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scored to make it 3-1 just before the hour.
Their heaviest reverse since losing 4-0 at Chelsea on November 21 2009 left them a point from safety with seven games left.
Kightly admitted the performance shocked his team-mates but believes they will put things right against Everton this Saturday.
“Confidence has been high and we went there believing we could win and we were quite surprised with how poor we were,” he said. “We were massively disappointed because we thought there was an opportunity to get something, but we have to do better regarding the goals we conceded.”
