Matt Jarvis: England call-up will make me a better player
Monday 21st March 2011, 2:57PM GMT.
Wolves winger Matt Jarvis today insisted his England call-up would only improve him further as a player.
The 24-year-old’s selection in Fabio Capello’s 26-man party for Saturday’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales and the Wembley friendly against Ghana three days later sees him become the first Wolves player since Steve Bull in October 1990 to make the national squad.
And Jarvis, who would be the first Wolves winger since Alan Hinton in 1962-63 to play for England, is eager to sample the feeling of training alongside the country’s best players.
“I’m sure it will be a great experience to be training with the squad and with a coach like Fabio Capello,” said Jarvis, who could face Wolves team-mate Wayne Hennessey on Saturday.
“Training will be that little bit different and I’m sure it will be a big benefit to me to be there alongside such top players.”
Jarvis also paid tribute to Wolves’ management staff and his team-mates. “It’s been great for me to have worked with the gaffer and ‘TC’ (assistant boss Terry Connor) who have helped me improve my game since I arrived at the club,” he said.
“I owe a lot to them as well, as my team-mates who have also been very important.
“But I always feel I can improve my game and am happy to put the work in to make that happen.”
