Devastated defender Ronald Zubar today said sorry to Wolves fans after apologising to his team-mates for his awful gaffe that led to last night’s 1-0 defeat at Bolton.

Zubar’s mistake in the third minute of injury-time allowed substitute Daniel Sturridge to bag the three points for Owen Coyle’s side just as the game looked to be heading for a goalless draw.

“I apologised to my team-mates last night and they accepted my apology, but I also want to say sorry to the fans because they came in their numbers and paid a lot of money to see us,” said Zubar.

“They love me but I love them as well and I want the good bond to continue.

“I feel awful because my mistake cost us a point and the game. I’m gutted and I can’t find the right words because I feel so bad.

“On the pitch all the lads were angry, which is only to be expected, but after the game, they put their arm around me and said ‘come on, get out there tomorrow on the pitch and go again’.

“Everyone was probably thinking we were going to get a clean sheet and a point which would have been good for us after the last few games.”

Zubar insisted he will put his error behind him quickly with the visit of unbeaten leaders Manchester United looming on Saturday tea-time. And the 25-year-old has evidence that he can make a recovery.

“That wasn’t the first time I’ve made a mistake,” he said.

“It happened before to me when I played for Marseille against Lille. That time it was a header back to the keeper and their attacker came in to score.

“But the game after we played Liverpool in the Champions League and I finished as man of the match.”
