Henry and Stearman sign new Wolves contracts

Wolves today announced captain Karl Henry and defender Richard Stearman had signed new contracts to 2014.

Midfielder Henry, who still has two and a half years to run on his deal, has signed for a further year with an option for another 12 months.

Stearman has signed a two-and-a-half year extension to his current deal.

The pair follow Wayne Hennessey, Matt Jarvis, George Elokobi and Dave Edwards in pledging their futures to Wolves since the end of last season.

Both the skipper and boss Mick McCarthy have gone on record recently to say they want to extend his stay, while Henry said he would be happy to spend the rest of his career at Molineux.

Henry has been one of McCarthy’s best value signings after being snapped up from Stoke four and a half years ago for just £100,000, making 182 appearances and leading the club to promotion before being one of the heroes that helped Wolves to survival.

Former Leicester stopper Stearman is also heading into a bigger pay league after signing for four years when he arrived from the Walkers Stadium in June 2008 for a fee of around £1.6m.

Talks between Stearman’s agent Tamas Byrne, who was at Compton yesterday, and the club have been swifter. Having arranged the deal that took Adam Hammill to Molineux last week, Byrne entered into discussions on Stearman.

The former England Under-21 cap who has played 80 games for the club.
