Angry Wolves are considering appealing against George Elokobi’s “disgraceful” sending-off after boss Mick McCarthy blamed Doncaster for their “cowardly” reaction.

Left-back Elokobi faces a three-match ban after his harsh dismissal in Saturday’s 2-2 third-round FA Cup draw following an aerial collision with James Coppinger which left both players briefly unconscious.

“I’ll see whether there’s any chance of an appeal,” said boss Mick McCarthy.

“If it’s thought frivolous, there’s a chance of it being a four-game ban.

“I certainly don’t think it’s frivolous, but it’s not my opinion that counts.

“I think it was a booking at most and the reaction of the Doncaster players in having a go at George while he was on the floor affected the decision.

“Notably John Oster, who stood over him and gave it out when he was semi-conscious, which is a bit cowardly because he wouldn’t have done that when George stood up.

“The referee said it was for serious foul play.

“I couldn’t see that when he was just jumping and trying to head the ball.

“There was a clash of heads and he said his momentum carried into him, but that does happen when you’re jumping.

“It wasn’t a red card in my opinion it was very harsh. George didn’t go with his elbow or his knee, he went to head the ball fairly. And now he’ll be suspended for three games, which is disgraceful.”

McCarthy added: “It happened really quickly and there was a huge hue and cry about it and they wanted to get him sent off.”
