Wolves have no regrets over Steve Sidwell pursuit

Wolves today insisted there are no regrets over their doomed pursuit of Steve Sidwell despite being snubbed for a second time, writes Tim Nash.

The Villa midfielder opted to join Fulham late yesterday afternoon in another dramatic twist to his future.

The 28-year-old had twice agreed to move to Molineux either side of his protracted switch to West Ham falling through.

But with Wolves having agreed a deal with Villa as well as personal terms, he had a change of heart when Fulham, nearer his family home in Surrey, came calling yesterday.

“Fulham have now come in for him, and, rather than take over his contract which runs to the end of the season, they have offered him a long-term deal,” said Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.

“We move on we’ve always said how difficult it is to get players in, especially at this time of the year.

“We never believe a player is ours until he actually signs, so there was no great surprise because we always knew there were other clubs interested.

“I would be more unhappy if it was for something other than family reasons, otherwise he had agreed to come to us.”

Meanwhile Wolves say it’s unlikely they will move for Millwall’s soon-to-be out-of-contract central defender Danny Shittu while the club have also been linked with his team-mate Steve Morison, a striker.
