A deadline day loan signing from Barnsley, the 30-year-old sat out Saturday's 2-1 win at Preston North End but was on the bench.

And manager Graham Turner believes his presence helped inspire youngsters Cameron Gayle and Yado Mambo, who are also on loan, to greater heights.

The Town boss said: "We are very light defensively and, although Rob didn’t play at Preston, he has got a part to play over the next month and maybe even longer.

"We need his experience in the club to steady things."

Defender Connor Goldson’s fitness is being checked out for Saturday's game after he missed the Preston trip through illness.

And Turner was taking his squad to Lilleshall today in order to find a dry training pitch.
