Marvin Morgan banned for two games after red card
Shrewsbury Town striker Marvin Morgan was today handed a two-match ban for his weekend sending off at Portsmouth.
Town officials had started the day pondering an appeal but have instead accepted the decision of the FA.
Morgan was dismissed shortly after the hour mark in Saturday's 3-1 defeat, and within a minute of grabbing his fifth goal of the season, for excessive protests to referee Fred Graham following the award of a free-kick.
Morgan will now miss the crucial home double-header against Yeovil tomorrow and Colchester on Saturday.

How can anyone defend wot he did on Saturday. He almost headbutted the referee and lost the plot in a moment of madness.
He was correctly booked and then went head to head with the referee. This is unacceptable and if played for most clubs, he would never again play. A 2 match ban for his offences is not enough.

I have to agree. As a Pompey fan I watched the whole episode in disbelief - he actually put his forehead on the refs. What on earth is there to appeal about? I want ALL footballers from all teams to set a better example of behaviour on the field and what Morgan did was awful. Ironically, he was Town's best player up to then and our fans were worried about his growing impact on the game.
Town could still have got something from the game with 10 men and played very well in places, but Morgan cost you a real chance and IMHO he is lucky to get just two games - physical contact with the ref is not on. Good luck for the rest of the season and well done to the fans who travelled down and got behind their team.

Silly boy needs to grow up let's hope he learns very fast.........

Don't think anyone is trying to defend it - I suspect the club were initially considering the option to appeal based on the fact that there was quite a bit of confusion over the incident at the time. The ref was going to book him (for what was barely a foul by the way) & then suddenly a red card appeared.
Obviously on reflection he had to go & I must admit two games is a lighter punishment than could have been expected.
I hope that the next two games will give the chance for the Gornell/Winnal strike partnersip to fulfill it's definite promise.
Karl - completely disagree that if he played for most other clubs he would never play again - any examples you can offer up where this has happened? Even Joey Barton continued playing after several serious incidents.
Micah - The Pompey fans are an example to every other clubs up & down the country as they always get behind their team, create some serious noise & have refused to be beaten down in the most trying circumstances. Good to see you slowly turning the corner at last. You have a talented young manager & hopefully the supporters trust will complete their take over soon.

Turner said after the Walsall game that the atmosphere in the dressing room was like a morg...even though we took all three points.....it certainly tells you something that the self belief is starting to look very frail and not because we play particularly badly but that far too many efforts all over the field in terms of our better play is ultimately leading to points being dropped for no other reason than lack of goals.
The whole energy of football, it's spirit, it's belief and it's excitement is built around goals and not around good play....don't get me wrong, good play should lead to goals, but at Shrewsbury this season on average it hasn't and the players that are responsible for putting them in must ultimately take the brunt of the blame.....Add to that Turners insistance that he's working his socks off to bring in a better striker without it actually materializing and your building a recipe for disaster....oh how i wish i was wrong but the facts speak for themselves, our strikers are not up to the job.

When did Joey Barton try and headbutt a referee?
Only player who well known hit a referee was Paulo Di Canio but it wasnt as agressive as Marvin Morgan

I didn't say he had, I was making the point that there are (far too) many examples of appalling behaviour by players who have continued to play for their respective clubs once they have come back from their initial suspensions. Barton springs to mind as a serial offender who is still playing.
So to say that if MM played for most other clubs he would never play again isn't true.
BTW - I'm not condoning what he did at all, he was totally out of order, letting the club, his team mates & the game itself down,
However the game is littered with players who in other professions would be unemployable as a result of their actions.....I give you the lovely Lee Hughes for example
