Graham Turner handed Shrewsbury Town fitness boost
Shrewsbury Town are set for a triple fitness boost ahead of this weekend’s trip to fallen Premier League giant Portsmouth.
Terry Gornell, Darren Jones and Sam Winnall have all returned to training and are hoping to put themselves into contention for Saturday’s clash at Fratton Park.
Striker Gornell has been absent with a knee problem sustained at Doncaster while on-loan Winnall has recovered well from the hamstring problem which forced him off at Brentford.
And, with Darren Jones improving from the illness which ruled him out of Sunday’s triumph over Walsall , Town could head to the south coast with a clean bill of health.
Meanwhile, boss Graham Turner has urged Shrewsbury to take heart from their rise up the table sparked by the win over Walsall.
Shrewsbury slipped into the relegation zone with results elsewhere on Saturday but swiftly rose five places from fourth bottom to 16th with their third victory of the season.
“When you looked at the table on Saturday evening it was embarrassing and it hurt,” said the Town chief.
“Nobody wants to be in one of those relegation slots, even if its only for 24 hours or so. It’s a far healthier League now.”
