Marvin Morgan is happy to help Shrews make flying start

SHREWSBURY Town striker Marvin Morgan is targeting at least 12 goals from the forthcoming season.
But the former Aldershot forward is also more than willing to be ‘selfless’ to help his team hit the ground running in their first season in the third tier of English football for 15 years.
Morgan, who netted 11 times for Town in his first season at Greenhous Meadow, is determined to better that tally this time around but he is also happy to be a goal-provider throughout the campaign.
His creative skills were on display last night as he produced a superb square pass to help set up Terry Gornell for the winning goal in a 3-2 pre-season victory over Worcester City.
And the 29-year-old hitman admitted he will have to sacrifice some of his own chances in the new season for the good of the team. “You always want to better the season you had before so I want to better my 11 goals I had and I think I can do that,” he said.
“It was a very poor goals return but I can work on that, but when you go higher level you have to be clinical.
“You can’t be taking 30-yard shots or 20-yarders if someone is square to make a cross for your team mate.
“As a striker I have to think about scoring. You have to be selfish at times but at other times you have to think about your team mates and be less selfish.”
Last night’s victory at St George’s Lane was the first time in four pre-season games Morgan did not make it onto the score sheet. But the forward, who has scored three times in the previous three games, said: “I am happy with my goals return in pre-season, I am happy with how I feel physically and mentally and I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Morgan’s strike partner Gornell scored twice while Mark Wright added the other goal as Shrewsbury completed their last public warm-up game before their competitive curtain raiser against Leeds which takes place next Saturday.
