Shrewsbury Town increase ticket prices

Shrewsbury Town today announced a £2 increase in matchday prices for their return to League One.

Shrewsbury Town today announced a £2 increase in matchday prices for their return to League One.

The near across-the-board rise means adult prices will be £22 and £19 when purchased in advance, with a further £2 on top for all tickets bought on the day of the game.

Concession rates for students and pensioners are £16 and £14 in advance while a family ticket – for an adult and two children under the age of 11 – is £20.

“Having researched other League One clubs’ admission charges, I feel our prices represent excellent value and we continue to offer considerably more affordable football than many clubs in our League,” said Town finance manager Andrew Pugh.

“Unlike the majority of other clubs, we made an unprecedented move to freeze the March early bird season tickets, demonstrating excellent value for those 3,000 supporters who took advantage of the promotional offer.

“As a club, we greatly appreciate the continued support we receive and we are all looking forward to a very exciting season following promotion.”

Supporters’ chief Chris Smith, chairman of the Super Blues, believes fans will be understanding of the need for a rise.

“I’m not surprised and it’s a vicious circle because the higher you go up the leagues, the more money you need to compete,” he said.

“I know the club do a lot of research on the prices of other clubs and I would think we are middle-of-the-road for League One.”

Meanwhile, boss Graham Turner is confident his squad’s training camp at RAF Shawbury, which ended yesterday, will prove beneficial.

“We had some great sessions and it was a good team-building exercise,” said the Town chief.

“Physically it has been very hard and I’m still a great believer in that you need a good base level of fitness.

“It’s interesting with the military personnel to see how fit, disciplined and organised they are.

“You want them to play a little bit freely but there also has to be elements of organisation, discipline and being prepared to work hard within the team and you get all those from spending a few days with the military.”
