Paolo Di Canio: Swindon Town were lucky
Wednesday 22nd February 2012, 1:45PM GMT.
Enigmatic Italian Paolo Di Canio today paid credit to Shrewsbury Town, admitting his side were forced to ride their luck to secure the win that took them top of League Two.
Two Alan Connell goals in 12 second half minutes left Graham Turner’s side devastated at the County Ground, but Di Canio admitted the visitors had been hard done by.
“I’m happy with the three points and the way we came out second half,” he added.
“But I have to be honest, Shrewsbury are the only team that played football and put us in trouble since I arrived here.
“We lost at Shrewsbury and last night we were 1-0 down and should have been two. For the first 55 minutes Shrewsbury deserved to be in front.
“Maybe they should have had a penalty in the second half but we then went on to dominate.
“My warriors took advantage of the luck they received. It’s the first time in a while we have had some luck and the win makes me happy.”
Di Canio was keen to see a video of Alan McCormack’s controversial challenge on Terry Gornell, but admitted his player would have been dismissed if a penalty had been awarded.
“If you tell me in the video evidence there is some of my player that took his leg, it’s a foul with a red card,” he added.

Below the photgraph it says “Paulo di Canio celebrates in front of Graham Turner at the final whistle”.
‘In front of’ suggests PDC would be toe-to-toe with Graham Turner and probably with the thumb and index finger to his forehead forming the ‘L’ loser sign.
Who wouldn’t celebrate winning a game so crucial for both Swindon & Shrewsbury? And as for PDC and Graham Turner in the same photo… thats the confines of the technical area for you.
