Recalled winger Jon Taylor today revealed his total commitment to Shrewsbury Town and insisted he had no regrets over snubbing a summer switch to Scotland.

After bursting on to the scene in the second half of last season, Taylor attracted summer interest from Scottish Premier League sides Motherwell and Inverness.

Instead, the Liverpudlian teenager pledged his future to Shrewsbury by signing a new two-year-deal at the Greenhous Meadow.

And despite having to wait until Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Macclesfield – the final game before Christmas – for his first start of the campaign, Taylor is convinced he made in the right decision.

“I always wanted to stay at Shrewsbury and I was glad I signed,” said the 19-year-old Scouser.

“There have never been any regrets at all. I love this club – the chairman, the manager and all the fans.

“It’s a great club to be at and hopefully I can develop here and become a better player, which I think I can.”

Taylor admitted he was delighted to get the nod as he replaced Lionel Ainsworth on the right flank for the visit of the Silkmen.

“It’s taken a while (to get a start) but I’ve just been patient and I’m happy the gaffer (Graham Turner) gave me a chance,” he added.

“I spoke to the gaffer about a month ago and since then I’ve had my head down, worked hard on and off the pitch and it paid off with me getting a chance.

“It was a great win, especially after last week (at Aldershot) we needed to bounce back.

“We need to kick on from here. We know we are playing excellently at home and we have to keep that going but try and improve away to get our points up.”

Yes, Taylor is the kind of player that we need to keep at this club for our short term and longer term future, he’s committed himself to the club when others would have been out the door, down the road and on the plane to Scotland before you even knew that he was thinking of leaving, certain other past players have done just that.

Taylor has a grit and determination about him for the lost cause in matches and reminds me of a certain Ben Davis for that kind of tenacity.

Taylor should be rewarded with a more permanent starting position in the squad.

Well done for your loyalty…it’s hugely appreciated by the fans.
