Blog: Shrewsbury Town close the gap at the top

A good weekend of results see Town close the gap at the top, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.
Following the poor showing at Aldershot last week it was important for Town to return to winning ways and keep the pressure on the teams at the top.
On paper Town were probably expected to win by a greater margin on Saturday, but Macclesfield made it difficult for us.
Credit must go to Turner who rang the changes for the game which gave the team a fresh look.
Town have got a strong squad with players that should be able to step into the team and perform when called upon.
The important thing at the weekend is that Town took advantage of the top three not winning and if we can maintain our impressive home form until the end of the season we should be there or there abouts come the end of the season.
Next up is a tough trip to third place Cheltenham on Boxing Day.
Town’s away form has been inconsistent to say the least this season and Cheltenham have only lost two home games in 10 in the league this season.
The game provides a great chance for Town to replace their rivals in the automatic promotion places which will be a nice way to end the year.
Boxing Day games are hard to call – it can often depend on which players have taken advantage of Christmas Day and eaten too much turkey.
