Joe Jacobson believes patience could be the key to Shrewsbury Town continuing their exceptional home record – as the Welshman set his sights on a bumper festive points return.

Town return to the Greenhous Meadow for Saturday’s clash with Macclesfield aiming to bury the memories of last weekend’s defeat at Aldershot.

The game represents a chance for Town to extend their long unbeaten run on home turf, where they haven’t been defeated since March 1.

Graham Turner’s side have won nine and drawn two of their 11 League and Cup clashes so far this season.

But left back Jacobson has warned his team-mates that visiting teams could make life difficult by putting men behind the ball like AFC Wimbledon and Morecambe have done in recent weeks.

“Our home record is fantastic but we know we have to keep working as hard as we have been to maintain it,” said the former Accrington Stanley man. “Teams may look at our record and set up a bit differently.

“We may have to break teams down like we did against Morecambe and the important thing is that we all stay patient.”

Town enter the festive period in fourth place in League Two and four points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

And Jacobson has urged Town to cash in on the frantic run of games which sees Shrewsbury host Macclesfield on Saturday and then face trips to Cheltenham and Bradford and a home clash with Northampton in the space of a week.

“I always look for an average of two points a game and that has to be our target,” added the 25-year-old.

“I feel we could have been a bit higher because we have lost a couple of games that could have gone either way but we are not in a bad position at all.”

Usually the make or break time for the season, the Xmas glut of games,.

We’re in a brilliant position this season with a stronger squad and more exciting players, but let’s not get carried away too early and the Aldershot result proved that lower side teams do have the answer to our style of play…pack us in tight and hussel and we can be beaten, that’s the hard truth, how many times will determine whether we go up or not.

Turner must still be asking himself the same question he did last season, do I really have the right players to fully do the job?

We’re nearly half way through and purely on a top striker basis, probably you would scratch your head…do we need one player to do the trick or a number collectively…..personally i couldn’t care less…but please oh please, bring good players onto the pitch earlier off the bench when we aren’t playing that well.

5-0 against Macclesfield will do nicely thanks!
