Graham Turner warns Shrewsbury Town against complacency

Boss Graham Turner today warned in-form Shrewsbury Town to guard against complacency ahead of tomorrow’s gruelling trip to Aldershot.

Town have won their last five games in all competitions and are pushing hard on the verge of the League Two automatic promotion zone.

But Turner – who has also extended the loan of teenage Cardiff midfielder Aaron Wildig for a second month – points to last season’s 3-0 defeat at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground as evidence of what could be in store.

“It’s a very small pitch and it will be tight,” said Turner, who was over-looked for the November manager of the month award today – Cheltenham’s Mark Yates getting the prize instead.

“Aldershot are a physically strong side – not dirty, they get it down and pass it – but they are big and difficult to play against.

“We came unstuck there badly last season, it was one of our poorest results, and we know we have to be at our absolute best.

“We’re on a decent run and we’ve got to make sure that no complacency creeps in, that’s as important as anything.”

Meanwhile, Town have secured the loan of Wildig until the beginning of January, while Steve Leslie has been allowed to stay at Hereford for a third month.

“Aaron’s missed the last week-and-a-half’s training but he’s fit again and available for selection,” said Turner of the 19-year-old Cardiff ace.

“We’ve extended his loan by another month. We’ll take that into January and then take it from there.

“He’s made a very quick recovery after turning his ankle and it’s an opportunity for him to come back into contention.”

Everton loanee James Wallace is available tomorrow, the midfielder having been prevented from playing in last week’s FA Cup success by his parent club.

Young striker Tom Bradshaw may not be available though, with illness having kept him out of training.
