Shrewsbury Town striker Marvin Morgan today insisted he would not be fazed by a barrage of abuse when he returns to former club Aldershot on Saturday.

Morgan is set to feature when Town make the trip to the Recreation Ground looking to extend their five-game winning streak – but his involvement is sure to open old wounds for the Shots.

The 28-year-old left under a cloud in the summer, having been transfer-listed last January after getting embroiled in a row with Aldershot supporters.

Following a game with Hereford he used Twitter to post: ‘Like to thank the fans who booed me off the pitch. Where’s that going to get you! I hope you all die.’

“I said what I said and it was a bit stupid,” Morgan admitted today.

“I thought the club was going to back me when I apologised but they washed their hands with me and there was a lot going on behind the scenes.

“I’ve just got on with my life and I am at a great football club now.

“We are absolutely flying so I don’t think I’m going to get side-tracked by some fans chanting whatever at me.”

Morgan also insists Aldershot would be making a huge mistake to concentrate all their energies on him – pointing out that the rest of the team warrant respect.

Shrewsbury are in the thick of the League Two promotion race and Morgan believes that long-term goal has meant that the reunion with his former club has become less significant to him.

“At the beginning of the season I was really looking forward to this one but now it’s here, with how well we’re doing, it’s just another game,” he said.

“If they set it up at their end as Marvin Morgan v Aldershot Town then they’re going to be in trouble because we’ve got another 10 quality players.

“The way we are playing at the moment, we’re in title-winning form.”

Town’s third round FA Cup tie at Middlesbrough has been confirmed as being played on Saturday, January 7 at the Riverside.

Does it really matter when other members of the team are still scoring, and weve won five games in a row? Weve still got some of the best forwards in the league and they will shoot us to promotion!
