Relieved striker Marvin Morgan today vowed to repay Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner for remaining loyal during his goal drought.

The summer recruit from Aldershot went nine games without finding the target after an explosive start to the season before ending his barren run with the fourth goal in Saturday’s 7-2 demolition of Northampton.

With international duo James Collins and Tom Bradshaw breathing down the necks of the forwards, Morgan admits Turner could have looked elsewhere for his striking options.

But the 28-year-old is now determined to justify Turner’s faith by recapturing the early season form which saw him score seven goals in a little over a month when he first arrived in Shropshire.

“As a striker, you are judged on goals so to get one last week has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders,” said Morgan.

“Hopefully I bring other things to the game but I’m very grateful to the manager for showing faith to sign me at the start of the season and sticking by me recently.

“Hopefully I can get on a run of goals again now.

“My aim was to get into double figures by the new year because that gives you a decent chance of getting 20 for the season. I’ve got eight now so I’m on target.”

Morgan is excited about the prospect of Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Morecambe.

“We’re unbeaten at home and they are the same away so something has to give,” he added. “Morecambe are a good side so we know, even after a 7-2 win that we have to be right at it.”

Meanwhile, the early signs from the Greenhous Meadow was that a quiet loan transfer deadline day was in store. Turner has recruited James Wallace, Aaron Wildig and James Hurst in the last three weeks.
