Shrewsbury Town look to extend James Wallace loan
Tuesday 22nd November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town are confident of extending the loan of Everton midfielder James Wallace – as boss Graham Turner confirmed it is “unlikely” any more new faces will arrive before Thursday’s deadline.
Wallace’s month loan from the Toffees received an early hammer blow when he was dismissed just 25 minutes into his debut at Dagenham.
That triggered a three-match suspension for the England under 20 international which concludes with this Saturday’s home clash with Morecambe.
It remains to be seen whether Everton will hand Wallace permission to play in the FA Cup second round clash with Rotherham on Saturday week, which is the final game of the initial month.
But, after talks with his Everton counterpart and former Town favourite David Moyes, Turner remains upbeat that Shrewsbury can have an extended look at Wallace, who continues to train at the Greenhous Meadow.
“Everton are keen for him to stay, the lad wants to stay and we want him to stay so there is no reason it shouldn’t go through,” revealed Turner.
The loan window closes on Thursday, meaning League clubs won’t be able to make signings of any kind until January.
Wallace has been joined by Aaron Wildig and James Hurst in agreeing a temporary move to Town in the last fortnight.
Both played a role in Saturday’s stunning 7-2 victory over Northampton, with Wildig scoring.
And, while not discounting it totally, Turner admitted the odds are stacked against him making any further loan additions in the next fortnight.
“You never rule anything out but it’s looking unlikely,” he added.
“I’m just concerned a little bit defensively because, although Carl Regan isn’t far off, Jermaine Grandison is still out for four weeks more and Reuben Hazell is nowhere near fit.
“If it’s going to be anywhere, we would be strengthening the defensive line-up.”
