Graham Turner thrilled by seven-up Shrewsbury Town

Thrilled Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner today revealed he had good vibes ahead of the Northampton goal-spectacular – after ending his side’s final training session early because they were looking so sharp.
Saturday’s 7-2 thrashing of the Cobblers at Sixfields was only the third time that Town had scored seven away from home in their Football League history.
They replicated the feat at Luton in 1965 and Rochdale a decade ago – and Turner admitted that last week’s training had offered hints of something special.
“I had to stop training on Friday,” revealed the Town boss. “It was the best we had looked for a long time, probably going back to pre-season and the early weeks.
“We looked terrific in training all through the week, but Friday was one of those where you stop it – we had done enough and we wanted to keep a bit of freshness about us.
“You could sense through the week that the whole thing was coming together again.”
While Turner was delighted with the display against managerless Northampton, he has urged his side to remain grounded as preparations begin for Saturday’s home clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Morecambe.
“It’s a good feeling and it has done our goal difference the world of good but we have to make sure we keep the players’ attitude and temperament right,” he added. “We don’t want to get carried away with this one.
“It’s probably fortunate it’s Morecambe next week who are going extremely well so we know that will be difficult and the message is more of the same.”
Saturday’s third successive away victory extended Town’s unbeaten run to six since the 2-1 defeat to Crawley on October 15.
And Turner believes the trio of loan recruits made in the last fortnight has provided a timely boost.
“The dressing room gets a lift with one or two new faces,” he added. “We have James Wallace – although he is suspended he is a new one that has come in – Aaron Wildig and James Hurst and that gives a little boost when you bring in three players of good quality.”
