Shrewsbury Town warned of Northampton revival
Friday 18th November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Boss Graham Turner will place his side on new manager alert as Shrewsbury Town take aim at League Two’s automatic promotion places at Northampton tomorrow.
Town head to Sixfields bidding for a third successive away victory, which would be enough to see them break back into the top three should Cheltenham drop points in their home clash with Port Vale.
Northampton have lost six of their last seven games, but Turner acknowledges that the dismissal of manager Gary Johnson in the wake of last week’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Luton hasn’t made life any easier for his side.
“There was always a chance there was going to be a change there after the defeat at Northampton,” said the Town boss.
“It sometimes brings a bit of a revival for the club when that happens and that’s soemthing we have to guard against.
“But it’s about what we do and the way we play.”
Town remain hopeful of bringing in a new loan defender ahead of tomorrow’s clash as he aims to cope with the injury problems to Jermaine Grandison, Reuben Hazell and Carl Regan.
Turner has the option of continuing with Connor Goldson – who replaced Grandison for the final half an hour of the 1-0 FA Cup victory at Newport County last week – at right back.
Strike duo James Collins and Tom Bradshaw have both returned from international duty.
And this willo give the Shrewsbury manager a full compliment of four attacking options for tomorrow’s clash.
On-loan midfielder James Wallace is serving the second of a three match suspension.Meanwhile, Turner has urged his side to again display the resilience which has served them well on the road at Newport and Dagenham in the last fortnight.
“We like to play some very attractive attacking football but you can’t always do that,” he added.
“Sometimes, you have to grind out the result and we did that last weekend.”
