Former Shrewsbury favourite Kelvin Langmead today warned his old club that Northampton will adopt a “cup final mentality” to this weekend’s League Two clash.

While Town boss Graham Turner continues to scour the loan market for defensive back-up, Langmead – who spent almost six years at Shrewsbury – is preparing for his first clash with his former employers since his departure 17 months ago.

The 26-year-old initially signed for Peterborough but was farmed out on loan to Northampton in the close season.

The Cobblers are struggling in 20th in League Two and are on the hunt for a new manager following the dismissal of boss Gary Johnson this week.

And Langmead admits that the upheaval has added to the importance of Saturday’s clash.

“We know how important the Shrewsbury game is for us and we will have a Cup final mentality,” said Langmead, who now has a five month old daughter, Ruby.
