Boss Graham Turner believes the enforced break of Shrewsbury Town’s leading scorer Marvin Morgan this weekend could be the catalyst to him re-discovering his top form.

Morgan made a blistering start to his Town career as he bagged seven goals in his first 12 appearances after his summer arrival from Aldershot.

But the 28-year-old striker has been on a barren run since his goal at Port Vale on September 17, failing to find the net in eight games.

Having picked up a fifth booking of the campaign against AFC Wimbledon last week, Morgan was serving a one-match suspension for this afternoon’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.

But Turner believes that break could be a blessing in disguise.

“Marvin has done well for us if you look at the start of the season as a whole,” said Turner.

“But his goals have dried up and sometimes a player having a little bit of a rest can rejuvenate them and re-energise them – and that’s what we are hoping for with Marvin.”

Morgan is likely to be back in contention for a recall for next week’s FA Cup trip to Newport County next Saturday as Town expect both Tom Bradshaw and James Collins to be away on under 21 duty with Wales and Republic of Ireland respectively.

Meanwhile, Town’s youngsters have been rewarded for their FA Youth Cup victory over Notts County with a second round trip to Darlington.
