Shrewsbury Town get Everton star James Wallace on loan

Shrewsbury Town today swooped for Everton’s England under-20 international James Wallace on a month’s loan.

The attacking midfielder met up with his new team-mates for the first time today and is set to be in contention for this weekend’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Wallace – who spent the season half of last season on loan at Stockport in League Two – has been with the Toffees since he was 13 and heads to the Greenhous Meadow with a recommendation from former Town favourite David Moyes.

“James caught the eye when he played against us for Stockport last season and is someone we tried to bring in during the summer,” admitted Town boss Graham Turner.

“Everton wanted him to do pre-season with them but he was then selected for the England under 20 World Cup squad (in Columbia in August where they reached the second round).

“He has had time to get over last season and the summer now and he comes with a very good recommendation from David Moyes.”

Tim Cahill is an “Everton Star”, Tim Howard is an “Everton Star” etc etc, someone who hasn’t played in the 1st Team and whose only football experience is playing on loan for bottom division clubs can’t accurately be described as an “Everton Star”.
He’s probably a very good player, but I wish the media wouldn’t devalue certain terms by using them in the wrong context time after time.

Yes indeed a fair comment, papers have headlines to worry about to capture interest on the high street paper stack, so i suppose the temptation is there….anyway it’s caught our attention, so job done i guess.

Let’s just hope he does more than just slot in to make up the numbers. So often i hear that managers have brought a player in to do a job, well that job can’t just be to create cover for some of our players that are out they surely must add something new at the same time to create opportunity for winning matches.

Let’s hope he earns the Star description and makes a significant difference to our often average and sometimes poor away performances this season.

Good luck Wallace…..now say Cheeeeese gromit.

NH has a point about journos “extenuating the actualitee” with their overblown exaggerations, but some new blood to revitalise Shrewsbury Town’s customary winter blues must be welcome; presently they can’t score goals but instead leech them against opposition they should be handling with ease (viz Wimbledon last Saturday). As a long-term admirer of Graham Turner one can only hope that his Evertonian loanee will provide the spark needed to reignite promotion ambition. This time we want straight promotion, not the repeated knife-edge misery of the playoffs.True Blue Mike.
