Marvin Morgan unphazed by his Shrews goal drought

Frustrated forward Marvin Morgan will have to wait another two weeks to end his barren run in front of goal for Shrewsbury Town – but insists his confidence remains high.

Morgan enjoyed a stunning start to his Shrewsbury Town career by bagging seven goals by September 17 – but has struggled since.

And Saturday’s goalless home draw with AFC Wimbledon means he has not found the net in the eight games since the 3-2 victory at Port Vale.

And his disappointment increased as he collected a fifth booking which means he will serve a one-match ban for Saturday’s trip to Dagenham, where Morgan spent part of last season on loan.

“It’s frustrating that the run carries on for me and now I’m suspended for five yellow cards,” said the 28-year-old, who said it was a case of mistaken identity for the foul which earned him a booking.

“I went to Dagenham last season on loan and didn’t really play so I would love to have gone there and got a goal.

“I just have to get on with it and work hard to try and get back in the team.

“As a striker at all levels, you go through spells like this and you just have to keep going.

“I’m a confident type of guy and have got broad shoulders so I will keep plugging away.”

Morgan admits Wimbeldon’s defensive strategy on Saturday made life difficult for Town.

“They were leaking goals all over the place and came with a game plan,” he added.

“They defended well so credit where credit is due.

“It was a frustrating day but you can never under-estimate a point.”

Meanwhile, Town face a trip to Blue SquareBet Premier strugglers Newport County in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday week.

Newport, who are managed by former Tottenham defender Justin Edinburgh, are third from bottom in the top flight of non-League football.
