Shrewsbury Town star to be disciplined
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 11:26AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town striker James Collins is to be disciplined by the club following his arrest on suspicion of drink-driving, it was revealed today.
The 20-year-old, who scored Shrewsbury’s goal against Arsenal last month in the 3-1 Carling Cup defeat, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday after the car he was travelling in smashed into the central reservation of a motorway.
Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner said there had been an investigation into the matter by the club.
He said: “There were issues concerning the events of Saturday night that we as a club have had to deal with.
“There has been an internal inquiry, there will be internal discipline which we won’t announce and that is the situation.”
Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan, 21, who played in the youth team with Collins at Villa Park before the frontman moved to Shrewsbury, was also arrested following the incident which happened at about 5.30am on the M1 in Nottinghamshire.
The road was closed for a time but no-one was injured.
