Town’s away form needs to improve before we lose ground at the top of the league, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

One point from two tough away games is not good enough if Town are serious about winning promotion.

It is still early days, but Town are already seven points off top spot and are already playing catch up.

There are no issues with our home form, but when away something is just not clicking and the manager has got plenty to work on for us to start picking up more points.

On paper we have got a side set-up for performing away, with two exciting wingers and a good target man.

But the spark we see at home is not there away and we need to start being more positive and come out the blocks quickly before the opposition settles.

It may sound like I am being too negative. We are lying in a decent position and have been competitive in most of our games.

But expectations are high this season and the players and manager know exactly what the fans expect – promotion.

Following two tough trips on the road, Town’s players will be glad to return home in a double header this week.

First up is a game against Accrington on Tuesday. They have had a difficult start to the season.

Then on Saturday it is a tough game against promotion-chasing AFC Wimbledon.

Four points is the minimum the players should be aiming for, but six are required if we don’t want to fall behind the teams at the top any further.

One suggestion for Turner: give Morgan a rest and start Collins and Gornell.
