International hot-shot James Collins today returned to Shrewsbury Town hoping his astonishing hat-trick exploits has put him in contention for an immediate recall for Saturday’s top-of-the-table trip to Crawley.

Collins made a stunning impact for Republic of Ireland under 21s when scoring a seven minute hat-trick in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory at Liechtenstein.

His maiden treble in professional football is also believed to be the first time a Shrewsbury player has scored a hat-trick on the international stage.

It also represented the perfect morale booster for the former Aston Villa hitman who was left out of the Town side which beat Barnet three days earlier.

James Collins certainly warrants a recall for Crawley and this presents a real dilemma for GT with Morgan and Gornell currently being preferred. Danger is if Collins does not get a fair crack at STFC it is likely he will be wanting away and i’m sure lots of clubs will be fighting for his signature. We don’t want another James Constable scenario do we!
