Home-grown Shrewsbury Town midfielder Steve Leslie today returned to League Two rivals Hereford United in his quest for first team football.

The 23-year-old, whose only senior appearance so far this season came in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Walsall, has made the short journey down the A49 for a one-month loan.

It is Leslie’s second temporary move to the Bulls after playing 11 times last season, and Hereford’s first signing since ex-Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters – with whom he worked at Town – was appointed as director of football.

Leslie signed a new contract at Town in the summer but has struggled to force his way into Graham Turner’s plans.

“Steve hasn’t figured much so far this season so it is an opportunity for him to go out and get some game time,” said Town boss Turner.

“He went to Hereford last season and we saw a good reaction from him and hopefully that will be the case again.

“Steve still has a lot of potential but he needs to start fulfilling that.

“He has good vision, a great left foot and I still believe he can become a good player.”

Meanwhile, patient winger Jon Taylor is happy to bide his time in his quest to force his way into the Town starting line-up.

After making an immediate impact when breaking into the first team at the turn of the year, Taylor has seen Lionel Ainsworth and Mark Wright occupy the wide positions so for far this term.

But the 18-year-old, who rejected a summer move to Motherwell to stay with Shrewsbury, insists he is ready when called upon.

“The team has been doing excellently which has been great,” said Taylor.

“Every player wants to be playing but it’s all about the squad and that’s something we spoke about when we first came back in pre-season.

“My chance will come along at some point and I have to make sure I take it when it does.”
