Blog: Sign of good things to come for Shrewsbury Town?
Wednesday 21st September 2011, 2:00PM BST.
For 16 wonderful minutes after Shrewsbury Town scored the goal that put them into the lead against Arsenal, glorious dreams were taking shape in the minds of supporters.
Alas, reality came around. The Gunners struck back. Arsene Wenger’s P45 was quietly put back in its folder.
The glittering occasion and the manner of the defeat will make the disappointment much easier to stomach.
Shrewsbury Town and their 5,000 vocal travelling fans did Shropshire proud. On the field the players gave a fantastic and gutsy display.
There is a gulf in the resources available to a top club like Arsenal and a local club like Shrewsbury.
But the Salopians played their hearts out.
They gave their all, and you cannot ask for more than that.
It was a great night out in London, a real taste of the big time.
Having shown they can go toe-to-toe with footballing giants, let’s hope the experience inspires Shrewsbury to put in a run of performances which will help them achieve another big dream – promotion.

What a night for the fans and players it was, full of all the gutsy football that you would hope for. Yes some of the Arsenal team played better, yes they cost a fortune, but that takes nothing away from the skill and our own level of class that at times dominated the first half, for a full forty minutes we looked the better side and made may chances from our own hard fought endeavors.
I don’t think the Arsenal home support could believe the way we were playing and were completely gobsmacked when we went 1 nil up from a terrific leap and header from Collins. Other chances went begging and Wrights shot deserved better coming off the bottom of the post.
I sat with a friend of a friend who was a Arsenal fan who had agreed to come into our end to give his thoughts as the match progressed, he too was very impressed, especially with the pace of Ainsworth and Connor Goldson standing in at the back.
So plenty to be proud about. Keep this performance rate up and we’ll go up on merit…Well done again Turner and our lads.

I’m in the mood for getting carried away after last night…did anyone else think that the way James Collins headed that goal reminded them of John McGinlay???
Also can anyone provide a photo of the scoreboard at 0-1?

Town were awsome last night me and my family all had a great time, even my 8 year old son had so much fun, that he slept all the way home on the bus with us arriving at home just after 2.30 this morning, and then all getting up for work or school.
