Thousands joining Shrewsbury Town for Arsenal match

More than 4,600 tickets have been sold for Shrewsbury Town’s trip to Arsenal next week, as the club nears a sell-out of its allocation for the Carling Cup tie.

This afternoon about 500 tickets were left in the away end for the game, club officials said.

Online and telephone ticket bookings finished at 2pm today, with the remaining tickets being sold from the club’s box office at the Greenhous Meadow during opening hours until Monday at 5pm.

The club will play the Premier League giants at the Emirates Stadium in the third round of the cup competition which will take place on Tuesday night.

Ian Bebbington, operations manager for Shrewsbury Town, said: “We had been quietly confident of reaching 3,000 but this exceeds our expectations. Every ticket sold now is a bonus.”

He said about 15 supporters coaches were expected to make their way down to London while other fans will travel by train.

Tickets for the game are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
