Turner’s words to Shrewsbury Town after Bristol Rovers loss
Wednesday 14th September 2011, 1:16PM BST.
Manager Graham Turner has backed Shrewsbury Town to ‘get back on the horse’ after their League Two winning streak was halted.
Last night’s 1-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers brought to an end a run of four successive victories.
Chris Zebroski’s first half strike proved the difference between the sides on a night when Town enjoyed plenty of possession at the Memorial Ground.
And Turner is anxious to avoid his side becoming too downbeat after the setback.
“If we play like that fairly often, we will win more games than we lose,” said the Town boss.
“We have to keep the players’ confidence high and keep them believing in what we are doing.
“We had so much of the ball in and around the Bristol Rovers penalty area, I thought sooner or later something must drop for us or we would create something.
“It’s partly because we weren’t bright enough in and around the box, and partly sometimes you need a little bit of luck – but it didn’t happen for us.
“Overall, we kept the ball and passed it into good areas and we should have, at times, done better.”
Last night’s defeat saw Town drop one place to fourth. But winger Lionel Ainsworth – who went close to an injury time equaliser – is confident another victory charge is just around the corner.
“It was a frustrating night – we played well and to get nothing out of it is hard to take,” he said. “They rode their luck a little bit and maybe we just needed to release the ball a bit quicker at times.
“But we have been playing good football.
“Last night was a setback but we have to take it on the chin, keep our heads up and get on another run.”
Full back Joe Jacobson is expected to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Port Vale after taking a late kick on his leg.

This was a very disappointing result. Early season results suggest Bristol Rovers are upper-mid-table standard and if town are to gain automatic promotion they should have got a least a point. Over recent seasons town’s away form has been their achilles heel, particularly against the lesser teams in this division. To avoid another frustrating ‘nearly’ season town do need to get this sorted. If you can’t win make sure you don’t lose!.
