Marvin Morgan urges Shrewsbury Town to deliver
Friday 9th September 2011, 11:50AM BST.
Leading scorer Marvin Morgan has urged on-song Shrewsbury to deliver a derby day hero tomorrow – as boss Graham Turner prepares for his latest reunion with his old club.
Town face crunchtime at lunchtime at the Greenhous Meadow when they take on Hereford in the A49 derby (1pm).
Shrewsbury – who will go top of League Two for at least two hours with a victory – have won the last three meetings between the rivals, and Morgan is desperate to extend that run.
“I can’t wait for tomorrow,” said the 28-year-old who –while he is satisfied with his return of four goals in all competitions – admitted he should have more goals.
“I love playing in derbies because you can make yourself a hero – they mean everything to fans.
“We have to be careful because league positions go out the window in these games, but we are feeling confident about how we are playing.”
For Turner, tomorrow’s clash sees him do battle with the club where he spent 14 seasons as manager and chairman before leaving Edgar Street to take over as Town manager last season.
And, while the Bulls only notched their first victory of the League campaign last week, he recognises tomorrow will be a test.
Simulate
“We are on a good run but we have to stay focussed,” said Turner, who brought his players in for training later than usual yesterday and today to try and simulate the build up to tomorrow’s 1pm kick off.
“Hereford have drawn two and won one of their last three (League) games and that includes tough away games at Bristol Rovers and Wimbledon.
“That suggests they are an improving side and they have some experience.
“It’s one of those testing games and if you are going to do well over the course of a season, you need that consistency in performance.”
While Tom Bradshaw and James Collins have both returned from international duty with no problems, Turner is expected to stick with the side which defeated Gillingham last week.
Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Terry Gornell have both overcome minor niggles.
