Shrewsbury Town’s Tom Bradshaw awaits potential under-21 debut
Tuesday 6th September 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner today reflected on the “double-edged sword” of international call-ups – as striker Tom Bradshaw waits for a potential under 21 debut.
Bradshaw is set to play for Wales in Montnegro in a UEFA qualifier tonight.
Fellow Town forward James Collins is also away with Republic of Ireland under 21s, who are in action in Turkey this evening.
And, while Turner is delighted for both players to see their progression up the international ladder, he is hoping to limit the disruption to club after the duo missed Saturday’s impressive 1-0 triumph at Gillingham.
“It’s a doubled-edged sword in a situation like this,” said the Town boss.
“You feel pleased for the players themselves that they are getting the recognition and we are led to believe Tom has got a good chance of being involved tonight.
“But then you want the players to come through unscathed and you hope the travelling doesn’t take too much out of them.
“They aren’t due back with us until Thursday so hopefully they will be fine and ready for Saturday.”
Of the players remaining in Shropshire, several were today due for a run-out in this afternoon’s reserve team game at Coventry.
Reuben Hazell, Matt Richards and Steve Leslie were all set to feature against the Championship side, while Jon Taylor will step up his return from illness.
“It will be a decent quality game and it gives people a chance to get some time on the pitch under their belt,” added Turner.
“Jon is an example of someone who will benefit – he is desperate to get back to full fitness and today will help him.”
