Town may have suffered cup disappointment in the week but the players are starting to gel in the league, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

Despite a slow start in the league, Town’s new-look side are starting to show why they are one of the favourites for promotion this season.

Saturday’s impressive victory over fellow promotion rivals Gillingham was fully deserved and would have given the players a massive confidence boost.

This season’s new boys are looking like great acquisitions made by Turner and on paper we have a really strong squad with good options on the bench if things aren’t going well in games.

The only negative this week was Town’s exit in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to Walsall.

Some fans will be disappointed with Turner’s decision to make several changes for the game considering it is a competition we had a good chance of doing well in.

But the players that came in were good enough to win and promotion should be the priority this season.

Somehow I don’t think Turner will rest too many first team players for the exciting trip to Arsenal in the League Cup.

If Wenger plays his second string they should be good enough to beat Town, but considering their start to the season I feel an upset could be on the cards.

Town will be looking to make it four league wins in a row when they welcome local rivals Hereford on Saturday.

On paper it should be an easy three points with Hereford struggling in 23rd place, but they will have taken a lot of confidence after picking up their first league win on Saturday.
