Gillingham v Shrewsbury Town – preview
Friday 2nd September 2011, 7:25PM BST.
Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has highlighted Shrewsbury Town’s ‘Fab Four’ – and called for his own side to be more ruthless in the final third.
Priestfield will host one of the games of the day in League Two tomorrow when two of the sides who have knocked on the promotion door in recent seasons go head-to-head.
Despite their’ unbeaten start to the League Two campaign going up in smoke with a 3-0 defeat at Rotherham last week, the Kent club are refusing to flinch on their target of promotion.
But Hessenthaler is still demanding more from his side’s attacking spearheads.
“We need to do better with the football in the final third because we are having a lot of it at the moment,” he said.
“At the weekend against Rotherham we had more possession than them but what are we doing with the ball?
“Are we showing enough quality with it? Probably not at times.
“It is not just the game at the weekend. We have identified that over a period of games.
“We can do better and improve, not just with the ball but without it with our movement, that’s what we have been working on this week.
“With the way, and the shape, we are playing there is more to come from us.”
While Hessenthaler called for more from his side as an attacking influence, he is wary of Shrewsbury’s ability to create and convert chances.
“They are a good team and they have pace in wide areas,” he added.
“Their front four (Lionel Ainsworth, Mark Wright, Terry Gornell and Marvin Morgan) are dangerous and they are going to be a threat.
“They are just behind us on points and so it’s going to be a good game.”
Hessenthaler is sweating on the fitness of a trio of summer recruits.
Winger Chris Whelpdale has been sidelined for the last three games with a dead leg while striker Danny Kedwell and midfielder Charlie Lee both missed training in the week after picking a bug.

I’m really not asking much of the lads on Saturday, merely to go one goal better than the 7 -0 thrashing we gave them that still burns bright in every Shrews fan.
So yeah, I’m not asking much lads just a comfortable 8-0 will do thanks.
