Jubilant Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner admitted claiming the scalp of Premier League Swansea ranked amongst the highlights of his managerial career.

Turner became renowned for masterminding shocks in his first spell at the Town helm from 1978 to 1984, FA Cup triumphs over Manchester City and Ipswich amongst them.

And his class of 2011 are repeating the feat in the Carling Cup by following up an impressive away triumph at Derby in round one with last night’s deserved 3-1 success over Swansea.

“It was a terrific night for us,” he said.

“The game has changed from my first time here and it was blood and thunder on horrible pitches (to get an upset).

“Now with the pitches in good condition, you have to be a bit more disciplined and aware tactically and I thought we were.

“Back in my first spell, teams never changed. Now clubs have big squads packed with good players and rotate.

“It doesn’t take anything away from the performance and it ranks highly for me.” Town fell behind to a Shane Cansdell-Sherriff own goal but bounced back superbly to run out winners thanks to goals from Marvin Morgan, Mark Wright and Nicky Wroe.

And Wroe – who grabbed his second late strike in as many games – revealed the free-kick which produced the match-clinching third goal had been rehearsed.

“We have been working on the free-kick in training,” said Wroe.

“We do a bit of disguising with Lionel (Ainsworth) and Mark Wright and then it comes to me. I didn’t strike it as well I would have liked but I will take it and it was a great night.”
