Shrewsbury 2 Crewe 0

Shrewsbury were left to celebrate their first League victory of the season as they notched three points against winless Crewe.

After a bright Shrewsbury start in which Marvin Morgan struck the post, the hosts broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when a cross from Lionel Ainsworth was nodded home by Sean McAllister, the midfielder recalled after boss Graham Turner elected to make four changes from the midweek defeat at Oxford.

Crewe had their moments oin the second half, despite being reduced to 10 men on 67 minutes when substitute Nick Powell was dismissed for a reckless lunge just seven minutes after coming on as a substitue.

And Shrewsbury wrapped up the points in stoppage time when Nicky Wroe burst forward from the halfway line and provided a deft finish from 15 yards.

Didn’t get to go to this match, but I was in touch with a friend who did, his comments were that the midfield was much improved, more accurate in terms of effectiveness to build more flowing attacks and not as many square balls. The result is a much better format to our play and one which we shouldn’t loose.

There’s one player that still has a lot to prove and is still left sitting on the bench, i find this very hard to understand and that is Steve Leslie. I understand that Morgan had a good game too but neither of our front two scored in the first half, now if that is happening then surely you need to throw someone in that gives us another dimension, i strongly believe that Leslie can add this when things aren’t totally right up front.

The result was a boost for the fans as well as the players and lets face it the club needs around 7,000 in our ground each week to start to make profit, we’re still falling short of that and more goals will surely mean more fans.
